A high school sophomore who discovers a powerful cosmic staff and becomes the hero Stargirl. She is the leader of the new Justice Society of America. Bassinger did not look at the previous portrayals of the character by Britt Irvin on Smallville or Sarah Grey on Legends of Tomorrow because they were depicted as "older, more mature version[s]" of Stargirl. Bassinger added the series followed the comic Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E. more "in that she's young, high school, naive, which I wanted to bring that into this version of Stargirl."

Ten years earlier, the Justice Society of America's headquarters in Blue Valley is attacked by the Injustice Society, who wipe out their Justice Society counterparts. Pat Dugan, sidekick to the hero Starman, arrives to find his friend dying and helps him escape. Starman tells Pat to keep his Cosmic Staff safe until he can find a worthy successor to rebuild the Justice Society. Meanwhile, a young Courtney Whitmore learns that her father couldn't make it home to watch her while her mother goes to work. Ten years later, Barbara is remarried to Pat as he moves his stepfamily to Blue Valley. While Barbara goes to work for a local company, The American Dream, and Pat opens a garage, Courtney is enrolled at Blue Valley High School. Later that night, Courtney accidentally stumbles upon the box containing the Cosmic Staff in her basement. After it takes her around town, Courtney puts on an improvised mask and goes to the Blue Valley drive-in theater, where she destroys jock Henry King Jr.'s car with an energy blast. Returning home, Courtney is confronted by Pat, who admits his involvement with the Justice Society of America. Henry King Jr. informs his dad Henry King Sr. about the incident, causing Henry Sr. to don his old costume as Brainwave. While training with the Cosmic Staff, Courtney is attacked by Brainwave and is saved by Pat in his own superhero outfit, the S.T.R.I.P.E. armor.SourceWikipedia
